I’ve been sick as a dog and my family at Calvary Temple was there to love me and hold me up in prayer when i needed their love and ministry the most.
I’ve been a member of Calvary Temple Church in Sterling VA for over 25 years now. We are passionate about reaching the lost and encouraging the Believers in our community. We have many Events throughout the year to spread the Gospel. I hope you find the following story to be a blessing.
This is my first post in over a month because i have been extremely sick. I have an autoimmune disease and that comes with a variety of issues. One of them being frequent illnesses. For the past three weeks, I’ve been laid out with my second case of bronchitis in less than a year. I can usually tell that i have bronchitis, as opposed to a cold, because when i cough it sounds like a dog barking. Nice.
Anyway, this case of bronchitis came with a bunch of unpleasant friends. Because of the autoimmune disease, I’ve turned into that person who gets every rare side effect listed on the drug sheet. After several nights of not sleeping and searing pain in my head and ribs, i bought some Robitussin DM because bless God I’m gonna sleep tonight if its the last thing i do. Apparently, a rare but not uncommon side effect of Robitussin is panic attacks and anxiety. I can’t even describe the crippling fear and claustrophobia that came over me after taking one dose. I thought i was losing my mind. I immediately had my husband pray for me, then texted a few of my closest friends to pray also. The panic hung on. All day. In a very desperate move, I requested the church congregation pray for me at the service that night. About the time Pastor Scott prayed i began to feel more at peace. The panic and anxiety hung on for three days but it was much less severe than before the church prayed. The prayers of my brothers and sisters got me through and I could feel them lifting me up.
Many of them called and emailed both me and my husband to check on me. One of my friends brought over some Benadryl the doctor at the urgent care had prescribed. That night i had an allergic reaction to the antibiotics and was rushed to the emergency room covered in welts with my tongue swollen up.
Again, I texted my friends to pray for me. I had my friend’s Benadryl in my purse and took one on the way to the hospital. As we pulled up to the emergency room my husband dropped me off and yelled “tell ’em you’re shot!” If you’re a fan of Brian Regan, you see the humor there. Between the prayers of my friends and the medication my friend had brought that afternoon, the allergic reaction started to subside before the emergency room doctor could dose me with four new prescriptions.
In three weeks I have had eleven different medications and five severe reactions. I’m believing for complete healing from the autoimmune disease. Nothing is too difficult for our God. Everything we face is a small thing to Him. But its times like this when we are at our weakest that we get a glimpse into the heart of God and His purposes to knit us together into the body of Christ. He never intended for any of us to walk out our salvation on our own. We are meant to be part of a family. I am very grateful for the one He has given me.
