Don’t Lose Hope – Our God is Mighty to Save

One of my favorite Christian writers is Charles Spurgeon. I have often been blessed by his teachings and God has used them to encourage and deliver me many times. I have children who are not serving the Lord, so this is one his writings that particularly blesses me.

I’ve been a member of Calvary Temple Church in Sterling VA for over 25 years now.  We are passionate about reaching the lost and encouraging the Believers in our community.  We have many Events throughout the year to spread the Gospel. I hope you find the following  to be a blessing.

Mighty to Save

Zephaniah 3:17 – The LORD your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing.”

By the words “to save” we understand the whole of the great work of salvation, from the first holy desire onward to complete sanctification. The words are multum in parro: indeed, here is all mercy in one word. Christ is not only “mighty to save” those who repent, but he is able to make men repent. He will carry those to heaven who believe; but he is, moreover, mighty to give men new hearts and to work faith in them. He is mighty to make the man who hates holiness love it, and to constrain the despiser of his name to bend the knee before him.

Nay, this is not all the meaning, for the divine power is equally seen in the after-work. The life of a believer is a series of miracles wrought by “the Mighty God.” The bush burns, but is not consumed. He is mighty to keep his people holy after he has made them so, and to preserve them in his fear and love until he consummates their spiritual existence in heaven. Christ’s might doth not lie in making a believer and then leaving him to shift for himself; but he who begins the good work carries it on; he who imparts the first germ of life in the dead soul, prolongs the divine existence, and strengthens it until it bursts asunder every bond of sin, and the soul leaps from earth, perfected in glory.

Believer, here is encouragement.

Art thou praying for some beloved one? Oh, give not up thy prayers, for Christ is “mighty to save.” You are powerless to reclaim the rebel, but your Lord is Almighty.

Lay hold on that mighty arm, and rouse it to put forth its strength. Does your own case trouble you? Fear not, for his strength is sufficient for you. Whether to begin with others, or to carry on the work in you, Jesus is “mighty to save;” the best proof of which lies in the fact that he has saved you. What a thousand mercies that you have not found him mighty to destroy!

God’s Black Friday Deal – Calvary Temple Sterling VA

God’s Black Friday Deal

Black Friday Deals

Massive Crowds

I’ve been a member of Calvary Temple Church in Sterling VA for over 25 years now.  We are passionate about reaching the lost and encouraging the Believers in our community.  We have many Events throughout the year to spread the Gospel.  I hope you find the following story to be a blessing.

I have always been fascinated by people willing to get up in the middle of the night to go shopping for a sale.

There are two women in California who have camped out in front of a store for more than 22 days to be first in line for Black Friday deals and Black Friday is still a week away. I don’t know if it’s a publicity stunt or if they are really desperate enough to waste an entire month of their lives for a $200 TV.  They could have made the money for 5 TVs in the time they spent sitting in front of the store.

Camped out for 22 days

People love a good deal.  And they are willing to expend a great amount of effort to get one.  16% of in-store Black Friday shoppers will leave a gathering of their family and friends – to go shopping – to buy items – to show them they love them.  Almost 20% of Black Friday shoppers will stand in line for over two and a half hours to get a good deal.  If I’m going to stand in line for two hours there better be a trip to Paris and a massage at the other end of the line.

So much time and energy is expended for things that will wear out and be worthless in a few years.

What if I told you I know of a special Black Friday deal.

  • There is no line.
  • You don’t have to get up early.
  • You don’t even have to leave your home.
  • It’s just your size.
  • It will never need to be replaced.
  • It increases in value the longer you have it.
  • And it’s absolutely free.

God’s Black Friday deal is his son, Jesus.

Jesus humbled himself and came to serve those who He knew would abuse Him, to love those who He knew would Hate him, and to die for those who He knew would never accept Him.

  • God’s law said don’t sin.
  • We broke the law.
  • All it took was one time.
  • The penalty for sin is death and separation from God’s love.
  • God sent someone to pay the debt for us.
  • Our whole job is to accept the free gift.

It was a Friday when Jesus was nailed to a cross, to pay for our sins, so we could be forgiven by a Holy Creator. And He did it just for you.

Cross at Sunset

And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit. And behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth shook and the rocks were split. The tombs were opened, and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised;…Matthew 27:51-52

For a moment, Satan thought he had won.  It was the blackest of all Black Fridays.  But it wasn’t over.  The power of God raised Jesus from the dead and it raises each one of us from our spiritual death when we receive Him. Our sin separated us from God but Jesus made a way for us to be brought back into relationship with Him.

If there was ever a deal that’s worth standing in line for, this would be it.

the last minute makes me cry every time.
